A rare TOP QUALITY, Isurus retroflexus tooth, a Longfin Mako, from the Meherrin River, No. Carolina. Lower jaw lateral tooth. Excellent copper red color with exceptional gloss. The root shows very nice detail with the typical distinct enameloid build up on the reverse side. Absolutely great preservation and condition - extra sharp edges and tip - very clean. Authenticity guaranteed.  Exceptional color!

Gorgeous copper red colored teeth found in Hertford County in NE North Carolina. Please note that these Isurus retroflexus teeth are noted for their unique copper red color and excellent preservation. This color is rarely seen  -  adding to the value of these Makos. All teeth listed are near museum quality or better. Absolutely NO restoration or repair in this group! Try finding one of these species with the rare copper red colors!

NC Red Site Mako shark teeth – The Meherrin River site includes an excellent assortment of Miocene – Pliocene Mako shark teeth including the Shortfin Mako teeth (I. desori and I. oxyrhinchus), Longfin Mako teeth (I. retroflexus), and Isurus hastalis, the Great White shark precursor.

Longfin Mako - Isurus retroflexus, the ancestor of extant Shortfin Mako (I. paucus) was a Miocene shark that is much more scarce than the other Miocene species. Isurus paucus, the extant Longfin Mako shark, is also a scarce shark tooth to find.  The NC Red site provides an excellent opportunity to own fantastic specimen of these scarce Mako teeth.

Longfin Mako - Isurus retroflexus – tooth identification - the Isurus retroflexus teeth will exhibit a considerable enameloid build up where the crown meets the root on the non-display side. It is a very distinct feature. These also typically have shorter and wider cusps compared to the Shortfin Mako teeth.
