A very rare Glyphis glyphis tooth, the Speartooth shark, from Sumatra, Indonesia. These teeth were deposited in the Telisa formation - a shallow marine environment during the middle Miocene (approx. 15 million years ago.) A very unique collector's tooth. D172 is the lower lateral tooth on the right. Authenticity guaranteed.

Details

Glyphis glyphis, the Speartooth shark, is an very rare member of the river shark genus. It inhabits coastal marine waters and tidal area of large tropical rivers in SE Asia. Named for the spear-like tips of its lower anterior teeth used for grasping prey. Glyphis glyphis is a night time fish hunter.

This collection represents a rare and very unusual collection of Miocene fossil shark teeth from the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. Few collectors have these teeth and even fewer have had the opportunity to collect this site as I did!
