A rare, ~3" GEM Great White transition shark tooth, Carcharodon hubbelli, from Chile. The C. hubbelli is an evolutionary transition from the un-serrated big-tooth Mako shark to the fully serrated Great White shark which takes place in the late Miocene period. This rare lower jaw anterior tooth measures 2-15/16". This transition tooth exhibits ultra fine serrations (upward pointing) over the top 2/3s of the crown and fine serrations at the base of the crown. This tooth with a gorgeous tan colored crown and a tan colored root. Highest quality enamel! Excellent color! Exceptional preservation - note the preserved nutrient hole on the root. Absolutely no repair or restoration. Note - The lower tooth are far more scarce compared to the upper jaw teeth as relatively few are lost during feeding. This tooth has been in my collection for 10+ years - back in the good old days when fantastic fossil shark teeth were coming out of Chile. Since strict enforcement of the their antiquity laws starting in 2006, there has been no new material coming from Chile. NO repair! The BEST of the BEST!
